The Ely clear semi flush light is the clear glass sister of our Ely milk glass ceiling light: a vintage schoolhouse shade, 22 cm across, held close to the ceiling on a short stem and a knurled lamp holder. Clear glass shows off the bulb, so a filament bulb glows inside it like a lantern and throws a bright, sparkling light around a kitchen or hallway.
At about 25 cm from the ceiling to the bottom of the glass, it suits low and standard UK ceilings where a pendant would hang too low. The antique brass finish warms up period hallways and country kitchens; black gives a crisper look against white walls and suits black door furniture and taps. Two or three in a row look good over a kitchen worktop or along a corridor.
The shade is 22 cm wide and 14 cm deep, on a round 12 cm ceiling plate. It takes one E27 bulb, not included; a warm white LED filament bulb suits the clear glass best. It is a hardwired fitting for standard UK mains, to be installed by a qualified electrician.

Frequently asked questions
Will it suit a low ceiling?
Yes. It is about 25 cm from the ceiling to the bottom of the glass, so it sits much closer to the ceiling than a pendant and suits most UK ceiling heights.
Which bulb should I use?
It takes one E27 bulb, not included. Because the glass is clear, the bulb is on show: a warm white LED filament bulb of around 2700K looks best and keeps the glare soft.
Clear or milk glass?
Clear glass gives a brighter, sparkling light and shows off a filament bulb. The Ely milk glass semi flush light has an opal shade for softer, glare free light. Both come in antique brass or black.
