The Walpole is a small drum pendant in amber glass with darker brown marbled swirls running through it, a little like tortoiseshell. The shade is 17 cm across and 16 cm tall, with a gently wavy, hand finished lower edge, and it is open underneath so the light falls straight down onto a table or worktop.
When it is lit the glass glows honey gold and the marbling shows clearly; when it is off, the darker streaks keep it looking rich rather than plain. Because the glass is marbled, the pattern varies a little from one shade to the next. It hangs from a solid brass lamp holder with its own turn switch, on a twisted gold coloured cord that can be set to any length up to 150 cm.
Hang one beside a bed or over a reading chair, or two or three in a row over a kitchen island or dining table. It takes one E27 bulb, not included; a warm white filament bulb suits the amber glass best. It is a hardwired fitting for standard UK mains with a 10 cm round ceiling rose, to be installed by a qualified electrician.
