The Chediston ceiling light is a small semi flush fitting: a round 10 cm brass finish canopy and a short stem carrying a cream glazed ceramic shade, hand painted in a red brown that recalls old farmhouse china. Choose the Scalloped shade, a softly wavy drum 16.5 cm across with a painted garland of swags, bows and tassels, or the Lattice shade, a tapered drum 17 cm across with a raised diamond pattern and small painted bows.
It drops only about 17 cm (Scalloped) or 20 cm (Lattice) from the ceiling, so it suits cottage hallways, landings, box rooms and studies with low ceilings where a pendant would be in the way. The light falls from the open base while the glaze glows softly. Because each shade is painted by hand, the pattern varies a little from one to the next.
A warm white LED bulb with an E27 fitting is included. It is a hardwired fitting for standard UK mains and dry indoor rooms, to be installed by a qualified electrician. It matches the Chediston pendant and wall light.

Made for low ceilings
In a cottage hallway the Chediston sits close to the ceiling, out of the way of heads, coats and doors.
A small room, lit softly
Over a desk in a study or box room it gives a warm, even light without the bulk of a pendant.
Painted under the glaze
The red brown garland is painted on by hand under the glaze, so no two shades are quite the same.

Chosen for the finish
We choose each design for how its surface handles light: natural travertine, brushed brass, aged bronze or ribbed glass. The finish is part of the design, not an afterthought.
Built for real rooms
We design for homes that get lived in, not showrooms that get photographed. Warm, unobtrusive light. A scale that suits an ordinary ceiling. Finishes that age rather than wear out.
