The Butley is a wall light straight out of a Victorian parlour: a pointed dome shade of fabric panels edged with beaded braid, with a curtain of fine golden chain tassels hanging from its rim, on a curved brass arm from a round pressed brass wall plate. Lit, the fabric glows and the tassels catch the light and sway, so it reads as a piece of decoration as much as a lamp.
Choose the Meadow shade, with rust and moss green panels around a cream panel printed with wild flowers, or the Bamboo shade in moss green printed with bamboo leaves. The shade is 22 cm across, the whole light is 36 cm tall and the wall plate 11.5 cm. A 4 W E14 LED bulb is included (the holder takes up to 60 W).
Choose Hardwired to wire it into a wall light point, with a turn switch on the lamp holder, or Plug In, which comes with a 1.8 m cable and a UK plug so it can go on any wall near a socket with no electrician. For dry indoor rooms.
Size guide
Mounting height guide
- Beside a bed: wall plate about 110 to 125 cm from the floor, so the tassels hang above the bedside table
- Hallways and landings: wall plate about 140 to 150 cm from the floor
- Allow about 25 cm of wall width for the shade
- Size: 36 cm tall, 22 cm shade, 11.5 cm wall plate
Installation
- Hardwired: connects to a wall light point; the wall plate screws over the wiring; installation by a qualified electrician is recommended; always switch off the power at the consumer unit before any work begins
- Plug In: fix the wall plate with two screws, run the 1.8 m cable to a socket and plug in; no electrician needed
Power source
- Mains powered on standard UK mains (230 V): hardwired into a wall light point, or plug in with a 1.8 m cable and a UK plug
- Takes 1 x E14 bulb; a 4 W LED bulb is included
- Hardwired version switches on the lamp holder and from your wall switch
Where it works best

Beside a brass bed
On a dark green wall above the bedside table, the fringed shade glows like a Victorian parlour lamp and lights a book.
On the landing
Beside a gilt mirror on a landing or in a hall, the tassels throw soft, moving shadows on the panelling.
Tassels, braid and print
Fine golden chains hang from a beaded braid, and the fabric panels are printed with wild flowers that show when the bulb is on.

Chosen for the finish
We choose each design for how its surface handles light: natural travertine, brushed brass, aged bronze or ribbed glass. The finish is part of the design, not an afterthought.
Built for real rooms
We design for homes that get lived in, not showrooms that get photographed. Warm, unobtrusive light. A scale that suits an ordinary ceiling. Finishes that age rather than wear out.
Frequently asked questions
Which fitting should I choose?
Hardwired wires into a wall light point and turns on from a switch on the lamp holder. Plug In has a 1.8 m cable and a UK plug, so it goes on any wall near a socket with no electrician, which suits rented homes and rooms without a wall light point.
Is a bulb included?
Yes, a 4 W E14 LED bulb comes with the light. The holder takes any E14 bulb up to 60 W; a warm white LED candle bulb suits the fabric best.
Can the shade be cleaned?
Dust the fabric and tassels with a soft brush or a hairdryer on cool. Keep it away from steam and splashes; it is for dry indoor rooms only.
